Places to see in Eastern Moravia

Zlínsko and Luhačovicko

The Zlín and Luhačovice Regions tend to be associated especially with two notions - Baťa and spas.

It is no wonder because Thomas Baťa started to establish his shoemaking empire right here at the beginning of the 20th century and he indelibly influenced today's appearance of Zlín, Otrokovice, and Napajedla. Individual structures, factory complexes as well as whole residential districts, which we admire as excellent examples of functional architecture, were built in a short time. Baťa left a floating channel as well, which has become a very popular tourist attraction in the past years. Luhačovice, the biggest Moravian spa, an enchanting town with its distinct architecture, rich cultural and social life, is an attraction of the eastern part of the region located in the glamorous surroundings. The Regions of Zlín and Luhačovice, however, offer a lot more. For example, there is a spa town of Kostelec with a golf course near Zlín, the "fairy-tale" Chateau in Lešná surrounded by the area of the zoological garden, the Malenovice Castle, the ruin of the Lukov Castle, Romanesque little church in Tečovice and the pilgrimage temple in Štípa. Vizovice with the local castle and Distillery Land cannot be left out, either. Southern Moravian Wallachia is a peculiar region famous for its magnificent White-Carpathian scenery, typical wooden cottages but also the Brumov Castle, lively folklore, and handicraft traditions.

Kroměříž Region

The main magnets of the Kroměříž Region are the monuments in Kroměříž and the nature of the Chřiby Mountains and the Hostýn Hills. This is, however, not everything at all!

The Kroměříž Region can boast a lot of beauties of nature. You will find mountain forests and meadows of the Chřiby Mountains here as well as of the Hostýn Hills, dead river channels and ponds of the Pomoraví Region, and also chateau parks of Kroměříž and Holešov. You will not be surprised to hear that the complex of historical gardens and the Kroměříž Castle are protected as a UNESCO monument - make sure that you do not miss other places of interest either, such as svatý Hostýn (Holy Hostýn), the Jewish monuments of Holešov or the open-air museum in Rymice. You might not know that wine is also a part of the Kroměříž region. Indeed, the northernmost located vineyards in Moravia are situated here and the renowned Archbishop's cellars have produced sacramental wine since as early as the times of Charles IV. If you are a fine art lover, you should not miss the Castle Picture Gallery in Kroměříž, where there are real treasures of world painting or monuments dedicated to local natives - Max Švabinský and Emil Filla. You will come into your own if you like doing sports, too. In short, you can spend a pleasant summer holiday here, a long weekend, or go to the snow-capped plains of the Chřiby Mountains and the Hostýn Hills!

Slovácko

Moravian Slovakia is rightly considered a hospitable region of monuments, traditions and wine. Moravian Slovakia, however, offers a lot more to everybody who wants to get to know this region more closely.

You will find here natural beauties of Pálava, the Chřiby Mountains, the White Carpathians as well as the floodplain forests of the Pomoraví Region. You can admire the splendour of the Castles in Lednice, Milotice or Buchlovice, unconquerable ramparts of Buchlov, Great Moravian fortified settlements of Staré Město, Mikulčice, or Pohansko as well as places of pilgrimage such as Velehrad, Žarošice or Svatý kopeček near Mikulov. You can stroll through places which are connected with outstanding people, including Comenius and Masaryk. You can also experience the unique atmosphere of events such as the Rides of the Kings, Moravian Slovak feasts with a right, folklore festivals, wine tasting and wine festivities. You will see vineyards and picturesque cellar lanes in Petrov, Pavlov, Vlčnov, and Mařatice here. You can discover Moravian Slovakia on a bike, on a horse, on the Baťa Canal, on wings, in a basket of a hot-air balloon, and relax by the river or in spas. You can find here skis and also cross-country skis and mainly hospitable and kind people!

Wallachia

People go to Moravian Wallachia for traditions, folk monuments, countryside, and skiing.

You might associate Moravian Wallachia only with folk architecture. Yes, you will really find the biggest complex of folk constructions in the Czech Republic in the open-air museum in Rožnov, but the heritage of local monuments is a lot more varied. There are, for example, interesting castles, Dušan Jurkovič constructions in Pustevny, or the frequently visited Statue of Radegast. Lovely forests with rare inhabitants, such as the wolf, the bear, and the lynx. You do not have to be afraid, these animals are so rare that you will not see them with all probability - if you are really lucky perhaps their spoor. Yet a typical scenery of Moravian Wallachia is especially a mosaic of forests, meadows, pastureland and wooden cottages set on the hillside. Apart from interesting museums, you can admire the art of a number of folk artists in Moravian Wallachia or visit the world-famous gobelin tapestry manufacture in Valašské Meziříčí. You can meet folk traditions and folklore in the whole of Moravian Wallachia from spring to winter. There are also sports, social and spiritual events. And if you like relaxing actively, then you will definitely enjoy yourselves, no matter if you are hikers, cyclotourists, supporters of riding, swimming, golf, mountaineering, mushroom picking, or come alive with the arrival of the first frosts and snow and if you are a lover of ski slopes, cross-country skis and snowboards.
