Sixteen-year-old Mik is a slightly odd boy with big ears and a big imagination. He hates dogs, but loves hard rock, his brother, and whales. One day two social workers come and tell him that he has to move in with his aunt in northern Sweden. Upon arrival he wants to escape, but he gradually settles in. He falls in love for the first time, starts to work in a cat factory and manages to make friends with the brothers Bengt and Bertil, who haven't spoken together for 30 years. Mike's adventures continue after the authorities again decide that the boy must move again. Mik therefore decides to escape on the Ice dragon.

What could be worse than being 14 and on vacation with your father? Taking your children on vacation during seemingly endless rain. Since his divorce, Alberto spends little time with his children Lucía and Federico. The three of them set off for the hot springs one stormy morning: It's going to be a short vacation so they want to make the most of it. Always enthusiastic, Alberto does not want anything to ruin his plans. But the springs are closed until further notice and his children look at him with reproachful eyes causing him to fly off the handle. Soon enough, as the weather outside gets stickier, everyone becomes increasingly oversensitive. Meanwhile, the rain keeps falling and the house Alberto rented seems to be getting smaller by the hour.

The 19th century is at an end. A ship with Swedish immigrants arrives at a Danish port on Bornholm island. Among them are Lasse and his son Pelle. They are seeking a better life, job, freedom and independence in Denmark. Eventually, they get a job offer on a large farm. Their expectations, however, are not fulfilled - they get contempt, disrespect and disdain instead of freedom and independence. Yet, in their minds they never give up hope for a better life.
