Victor hasn't got a lot of friends and always wins second place, but is really hoping to win this year because his worst competitor, Daniel, has broken his leg. Everything is looking good for Victor until Daniel shows up and is about to win the competition. In panic, Victor cheats and the small lie suddenly develops into a huge scandal! The Bird Race escalates and Victor needs help from someone he hadn't foreseen…

A strange looking duckling hatched out in the yard from an unusual egg. It was unlike the other ducklings. All the poultry in the yard thought it was ugly. The duckling is made of plasticine in the film, while all other poultry (geese, ducks, turkeys) are made of feather. All the Ugly Duckling´s trials are acted out to the accompaniment of Tchaikovsky´s "Swan´s Lake". There is a happy ending; the Ugly Duckling turns into a beautiful swan and soar over the envious "ordinary" birds in the poultry yard. There is a beautiful swan in every child, even if he doesn´t look like other children. One just has to believe and hold on to hope.

Eight years later he lives in Canada with his draft dodging, dope dealing, hippie father, who doesn't make life easy for his son. School is a constant battle and even with the help of his trusty sidekick, an ancient wooden golf club - nothing seems to help bring his parents back together. Suddenly his life is turned upside down! His father is arrested and Redwood is relocated to Northern California to live with his estranged mother.

A somewhat mysterious sad woman, Karen, almost as if against her will, associates herself with a group of eccentrics who pretend to be mentally disabled at various places and in various situations. She starts living with them at a villa that is temporarily in the possession of their informal leader Stoffer. After overcoming some barriers, she joins in on their seemingly frivolous play, whose aim is the traditional provocation of bourgeois society. But cohabitation and Stoffer's escalating "ideological" demands begin to erode the bizarre community. The dangerous game is turned against the players and ends with the disintegration of the group.
